Area Five

Disco punk? Post-punk? It doesn’t matter with a band as talented as Area Five. The band is a cool mix of scene veterans (guitarist Ryan Villena played drums for bands such as Tungaw and Narda while bassist Nix Puno is one of the people behind Admit One Productions and played bass for Twisted Halo) and new bloods (guitarist/lead vocalist Jeff Tuason dabbles in marketing during the daytime while 18 year-old drummer Mark “Bata” Alcantara first sunk his teeth sessioning for Narda).

Area Five’s music is dance-flavored rock combined with the same seasoned Tagalog lyricism that Villena displayed during his erstwhile band Narda’s Discotillion run. Early favorites include the head-bobbing one-two combination of Kulam and Bilog, the early senti favorite Hangin.

Area Five first got together in the summer of 2007. They got their name from where Villena’s family used to live when his grandfather worked as a registrar for the University of the Philippines; which has since become the lots where some of the University’s more prominent college buildings stand.
