THE RISE OF THE BRAVE NEW MOVEMENT

HUBO Productions partners with PULP Magazine to bring you the rise of The Brave New Movement. Independent music, theatre actors, and filmmakers who supported and are behind HUBO Productions projects take center stage as a rising movement in the Philippine entertainment scene. This is the magazine’s first-ever music and movie issue.

HUBO Productions’ “Be Brave” marks their goal for the year. Combining independent talents and underground bands in their second film Sa Pagdapo ng Mariposa, HUBO embarks on a filmmaking process that has never been done before in the surging Philippine independent scene. Sa Pagdapo ng Mariposa is one of the first if not the first independent film to have a soundtrack aptly called Brave New Music.

Launched last December, Brave New Music: Songs from the Original Motion Picture Sa Pagdapo ng Mariposa combines veterans and promising talents: bar favorite VerseS, brilliant bands Area Five and The Rinka Collective, Muziklaban 2005 champ Sunflower Day Camp, crowd-drawers RedLead 65, the rocking Liquid Jane and Intolerant. With Elin Jr, 4WD and Kuh Ledesma’s daughter Isabella (the track she recorded features Keith Martin), Brave New Music: Songs from the Motion Picture Sa Pagdapo ng Mariposa sounds promising.

The film Sa Pagdapo ng Mariposa centers on its two main characters: caregiver Carlito Mariposa and sepak takraw player Agustin Vergeire, marvelously portrayed by topbillers Josh Deocareza and Marcus Madrigal, respectively. Their relationship propels events; not only in their lives but also of the people they love.  The chilling love story promises new twists and surprises in the genre, as marked by the filmmaker’s previous work.

The enchanting Kuh Ledesma also contributed to the film. She sings a local tune that is played during a pivotal scene in the film.

HUBO Productions is the brain, heart and soul of the hit Compound, considered one of significant films of 2006. Will Fredo’s Sa Pagdapo ng Mariposa reunites the filmmakers with Compound actors Liza Diño, Jake Macapagal, Lily Chu and Marq Dollentes. Also playing vital roles in the movie are Philippine theater thespians Lynn Shermann, CJ Mercado, Mika Margolles, Miguel Castro and the remarkable Leo Rialp.

It is all about collaboration. Executive Producer George Sommerrock believes, “Global artistic collaboration is unavoidable. Blending true creative energy means saying no to boundaries and yes to opportunities. HUBO is committed to exploring the space between unattainable and less traveled, the distance between beginning and completion, and the movement of the mind from provoked to understanding.”
